Mathematics at Modbury High
School
At Modbury staff endeavour
to challenge, motivate and inspire students to
explore mathematics. We do this by ensuring that
content is real, relevant and meaningful.
Courses offered at Modbury are specifically
tailored to meet the needs of all
students - not just the mathematically gifted.
As educators we continue to develop and reflect
upon our skills and resources by engaging in
courses and seminars which allow us to remain
up-to-date with current technologies,
methodologies and effective teaching practises.

Modbury High School has a strong commitment to
using latest technologies in its Maths programs.
Modbury has updated its computer room with 30
Pentium IV computers. Staff have access to 2
class sets of CASIO 9850GB Plus calculators as
well as 55 of the latest FX 9860G AU graphics
calculators ensuring students in all classes
have access to
and experiences with this technology.
A range of software is also available including:
Mathplot, Maths Helper, Microsoft Word, Excel & Access
Efofex, Aussie Maths Invaders, StatPak,
E-Text Books and over 85 assorted programs
designed to enhance and engage student.
learning
All staff are expected to incorporate the use of
graphic calculators and other interactive
software within their classes -
from General to Advanced.
Students working on Maths projects in CQ
Classroom

Students doing Mathematics in Years 8, 9 and 10
are placed in classes based on their ability
levels. Classes are either
General, Standard or Advanced,
with the addition of a 1 semester course - Year
10 Mathematical Studies. This additional course
is a prerequisite for those students intending
to do Mathematical Studies or Specialist
Mathematics in Stage 1 or 2.
After each term, teachers assess the progress of
each student and there is an opportunity for
students to move between these levels.
