Resource
Centre
Modbury
High School Resource Centre houses a
collection of several thousand books,
magazines, newspapers, DVD'S, videos, audio cassettes and CD-ROMS for staff
and students. It provides space for three classes
in the main body of the library and has two
rooms for the class use of AV equipment.

A
new Media Suite has been created in a
section of the library to allow students
to undertake multimedia editing and
short movie production.

The
I Mac Media Suite
The
centre occupies the ground floor of an open
plan brick building and is staffed by two
teacher librarians
who
are assisted in their work by a school
service officer and voluntary parent help.
The
centre is open from 8.30 a.m. each day.
Resource
based learning programs are incorporated
into curriculum areas at all year levels.
At
Modbury High School we believe that this
cross curricular approach to the integration
of the teaching
of information skills is the most effective
way of developing these skills in our
students.

Teachers
and teacher-librarians work collaboratively
in planning and teaching resource based
units of work.
The
use of the Internet has been incorporated
into resource based learning programs, and
the school has an
Internet
Use Policy to foster and support responsible
use. All students sign an agreement to abide
by the rules
of
the policy.
The
Resource centre uses the Amlib Computer
Library System and all school computers
provide for staff and student
access
to the resources. A bank of networked
computers provide
students with full
Internet and Intranet
access,
databases and CD-ROMs.
A photocopier is
located in the Resource Centre for students.
The Library was renovated in
time for the start of the 2005 school year,
which included new carpets, vertical
blinds, pin-up boards and colour scheme.
