Society and Environment
Studies of the Society
and Environment expand students' knowledge and understanding
of their own society, other societies, local and global
environments and of relationships between communities and
societies.
Society
and Environment is in effect a combination of the
most relevant aspects of the more traditional History, Geography
and Social Studies courses.
Students deal with
significant matters such as values, social justice and what
ecologically sustainable development. They are also actively
involved in gaining knowledge and making decisions and choices.
Ramses II
This
core subject covers year 8-10.
In the Middle
School:
In year 8
students study Ancient Societies, Mapping and the Physical World
In year 9
students study aspects of Medieval History, 19th Century Australian History and
Geography of South Australia and Australia.
In year 10 in
Society and Environments, students study 20th Century Australian History,
Coastal Geography, Countries of the World Study, Legal Issues and Studies of
Asia. They can also study 20th Century World History as well as Themes in
Geography including Disasters, Endangered Species and Antarctica.
In the Senior
School
Australian
Studies is a compulsory semester subject in Stage 1 (year 11)
Also in
Stage 1, students can choose to do Ancient and Modern History, Geography, Legal Studies, and
Studies of Society.
In Stage
2, Legal Studies, and
Studies of Society, and Geography are offered.
Students who
enrol in Stage 1 and Stage 2 Legal Studies, also enrol in the VET subject
Justice Studies at Adelaide TAFE
Students are
encouraged to participate in competitions such as the popular Map Competition
and the Australian Geography Competition, the History Challenge as well as the
Mock Trial and Mock Parliament sessions
