Technology Studies at Modbury High

Technology programs at Modbury High School encourage students to use technology productively and to become enterprising people.

Students are involved in generating ideas and in taking action, as well as in using and developing techniques and products that satisfy human needs.

In year 8 all students experience a range of areas over a 1-term timeframe. The subjects studied are Woodwork, Metalwork and Plastics/Electronics. The aim is to introduce students to the materials and equipment associated with each area as well as workshop safety.

In year 9 all students choose from a range of courses and also experience an extra area.

In year 9, all students choose 1, 2,  and in special cases 3 semesters of technology.  Each semester is spent as one term in their chosen area and one term of technology which is dependent upon timetabling and available resources.  The areas offered are Woodwork, Metalwork, Plastics/Electronics, Digital Photography and CAD.

In Year 10 students may choose semester courses in Woodwork, Metalwork, Plastics/Electronics and Digital Photography. Again, designing and graphics are integrated into course structure. These subjects can be chosen as general interest subjects or if a student wishes to specialize in this area in the senior school.

In SACE Stage 1, one-semester courses in Woodwork, Metalwork, Energy Technology and Outdoor Construction may be chosen. Woodwork has two semester options, framed construction and solid carcase construction. Both may be chosen.

In SACE Stage 2, full year courses in Woodwork and Metalwork may be chosen.

In SACE Stage 2, a new SACE curriculum document is in place. Senior students will be studying DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY and can focus on the areas that we currently have on offer.
