General mathematics (B)

Consistent C+ grade or better required in Year 10 Standard Mathematics.
This course will be taken as 10 credit units in Semester 2. This course is part of the new Stage 1 Australian Curriculum, and is undertaken in Semester 2. An achievement of a C+ grade in Stage 1 General Mathematics 1 is desirable.
General Mathematics extends students’ mathematical skills in ways that apply to practical problem solving. Successful completion General Mathematics at Stage 2 prepares students for entry to tertiary courses requiring a non-specialised background in mathematics.
The General Mathematics 2 course may contain the following topics:
- Linear & Exponential Functions / Graphs
- Matrices & Networks
- Applications of Trigonometry
There are 2 main assessment components - Skills and Assessment Tasks (SATs), and investigations/reports.

An examination on the semester’s topics is also used to assess the students, and the result of this (minimum of C+ grade) will be used in conjunction with the semester SACE grade to determine pre-requisites for Stage 2 Mathematics courses.
