Subject descriptor:

Semester 1 of a full year subject designed for students who have a sound background in music. This subject will provide pathways to all Stage 2 Music subjects offered at MHS.

The course will cover:

  • Performance - Ensemble and Solo
  • Arranging - Explore different sections of songs and scores, learn effective arranging techniques to apply to your own arrangements
  • Music in Context - Extend students knowledge of style, history, social and cultural context of musical works
  • Develop Theory and Aural Skills - Develop students knowledge and understanding of music notation, chord building and use of modern harmony and develop students aural skills in rhythm, pitch and harmony

Further information

Students will participate in a variety of concerts, often held after school hours, at a variety of venues. Students must be receiving instrumental lessons either through the Instrumental Music Service or a private provider.
