Special Interest Basketball Program

The Modbury High School Special Interest Basketball program provides many opportunities to develop students’ basketball skills and knowledge.

YEAR 8 AND 9 BASKETBALL SPECIALIST SEMESTER CLASS

Students develop fundamental and advanced skills, teamwork and strategies, video analysis as well as coaching and officiating. Students are also involved in various competitions and carnivals.

YEAR 10 BASKETBALL SPORT EDUCATION (Semester class)

Students focus on associated areas of basketball which includes coaching, refereeing, scoring and organisation. They develop individual and team skills.

Students participate in various competition and carnivals.

COACHING AND OFFICIATING

Students are provided with opportunities to:

  • coach junior teams
  • referee junior games
  • referee and assist with lunchtime junior school 3 v 3 competitions.

PLAYING OPPORTUNITIES

Modbury High School has basketball teams successfully participating in:

  • local zone carnivals at year 7 to senior levels
  • weekly sport at year 7 to year 12
  • State-wide Knockout Cup competition at year 7 to year 10 and open level.

Modbury High School has achieved outstanding success in competitions. This includes:

  • State championships – open boys, open girls and year 10 boys
  • Runners-up – open boys (5 times), open girls (3 times). The year 8 boys have twice been State runner-up and the year 8 girls have been State runner-up once

USA TRIP

Modbury High School takes 3 teams of students to USA bi-annually to play against school teams on the west coast of America. The team leaves in late November for about 23 days.

This ‘once in a lifetime’ trip features:

  • six or seven games against high schools in and around Portland, Oregon and Washington State
  • being billeted with families
  • NBA Game
  • college game
  • trips to Seattle and Portland
  • tyre tubing in the snow
  • tour of Nike World Headquarters
  • tour of Adidas North American Headquarters and entry to the employee store (50% discount)
  • two days at Disneyland
  • building lifelong friendships.
