Specialist Basketball Academy

The Modbury High School Specialist Basketball Academy offers opportunities for students to develop their basketball skills and knowledge. Riley Harrap is our Basketball Academy coach, who has a wealth of experience coaching elite juniors and currently playing NBL1 for the Norwood Flames.

Year 7-10 Basketball Academy 

Students begin by developing fundamental basketball skills and progress toward advanced skills and basketball concepts. The Academy is designed for hard-working individuals with a passion for basketball looking to pursue advanced basketball opportunities.

The Basketball Academy is a 4-year program. Classes operates over the course of the entire school year. Students have the following opportunities:

  • Intensive skill and tactical development
  • Strength & conditioning development
  • Coaching at local primary schools & umpiring courses

Saturday Morning Basketball

Modbury High School participates in Saturday morning basketball competitions played against other High Schools. Girls competitions run during Terms 1 & 4, whilst boys competitions run during Terms 2 & 3.

Other Playing Opportunities

Students also have the opportunity to participate in the following experiences:

  • Local zone carnivals from year 7 to senior levels
  • State-wide Knockout Cup competition from year 7 to year 10 and open level
  • Before school basketball sessions offered daily

USA Basketball Trip

Modbury High School takes 3 teams of students to the USA bi-annually to play against school teams on the west coast of America. The team leaves in late November for about 23 days.

This ‘once in a lifetime’ trip features:

  • Six or seven games against high schools in and around Portland, Oregon and Washington State
  • Being billeted with families
  • NBA Games
  • College games
  • Trips to Seattle and Portland
  • Tyre tubing in the snow
  • Tour of Nike World Headquarters
  • Tour of Adidas North American Headquarters and entry to the employee store (50% discount)
  • Two days at Disneyland
  • Building lifelong friendships
